So your Dusk by Dawn soy candle arrived, it smells beautiful out of the box and you cant wait to light it..
Before you go any further, let's talk about candle care, we really want you to get the very best from your luxury candle.
1. The first burn is the most important
The first burn will define how your candle performs throughout it's life, but it's only a candle you say.... Well, yes but this candle has memory!
Let's say you don't burn your candle long enough on the first burn and it only melts half way across the diameter. The next time you light it, this section will melt much easier on subsequent burns causing your candle to "tunnel". This tunnelling effect will unfortunately continue with each burn.
We recommend to burn your candle for approximately 3 hours on the first burn and each burn there after, this will ensure your wax liquifies to the edge of the vessel. This will guarantee a healthy candle that burns the whole way down leaving no wax behind!
2. Don't burn longer than 4 hours
If you leave your candle burning longer than 4 hours as carbon will begin to build up on the wick resulting in "mushrooming". This is essentially when the wick is longer than it should be and it forms a black mushroom shape from the carbon build up, don't worry though, point 3 shows you how to fix the issue.
We generally don't burn longer than 3.5 hours at a time.
3. Always trim the wick
All Dusk by Dawn candles will arrive ready to burn but after the first burn please remember that trimming the wick is an essential part of your candle ritual.
Before you relight your candle, trim the wick to approximately 5mm but if your thinking imperial measurements, between 1/8 and 1/4 inches should be good to go.
4. Consider the setting
We love to give our candles pride of place, after all, they look beautiful and smell wonderful so don't put it in that corner where no one can see it. Place it in a focal location allowing the candle to throw evenly round the room then dim the lights and create an ambience, scents can improve mood, calm the mind and stimulate memories, so make sure you get the full benefit!
5. Don't throw out the vessel, upcycle & continue to enjoy
Your Dusk by Dawn luxury candle has given you 45 hours of burn time, it's been wonderful but it doesn't need to end there !
Wash out the vessel with hot water removing the residual wax, we recommend using a little soap to thoroughly clean and hey presto! Your vessel can be used to store pens, make up brushes or flowers (our favourite), your choice is limitless.
