My personal story about Jean Blossom

Soy Candles Northern Ireland

Dusk by Dawn began in 2021, at least that's when the testing, research and practice makes perfect all began. I began posting updates on Instagram and Facebook from March 22, documenting and sharing my journey of transitioning into the world of home fragrance, candles, diffusers, wax melts and ecommerce.

During that time I've shared posts and stories explaining each fragrance, the nuances and each layer in the sense of a top note, heart note and base notes but sometimes it’s more than that.

For many people, fragrances can trigger memories, they often bring us back to a moment in time or evoke a general feeling, you know, the type you can't quite put your finger on, but it’s a good thing from a past encounter or experience.

So, I'd like to share a personal story about my fragrance, Jean Blossom.

Like all little girls, I looked up to my mum, her name was Jean, she was a superstar, working as a nurse and often helping in our family butchers making pies.

I was the youngest of 5 children, my mum was always the voice of encouragement when I said “ I can't”, I was always told there's no such word as can't…  I really needed that encouragement.

By the age of 12 both my mum and dad had passed away, so these childhood memories are so incredibly precious.

When I was working to finalise my first fragrances, one jumped out and without sounding too cliché, it triggered core memories of my mum and how she loved to wear floral perfumes. Even now, as I type this blog entry, I can smell the cold throw of Jean Blossom as the candle is sitting on the table beside my laptop, for me it’s that comforting childhood memory and for others, it's something else just as wonderful.

I always recall my mums encouragement, that common phrase “there's no such word as can't” told to so many kids growing up, the sentiment really resonated with me, it took root and as I got older, it really helped drive me to chase my dreams of making Dusk by Dawn a reality, I knew that I had to name this candle after my mum Jean and Jean Blossom was the perfect name.

Thanks for reading…
